Cover Up Tattoos

What happens when you decide that the cute little tattoo that you got that time on a dare isn’t so special any more? How about that tattoo you really didn’t take good care of while it was healing and it looks like hell? Or even worse, what about those self-done or BFF done (we’ll call them tats) indescribable splotches you now have? Or the tattoos done by people that call themselves “artists” that really aren’t?

What should you do about any of those? Laser them off? Well you can try that and it may or may not work depending on the ink used, whether or not it is colored, etc. and that’s expensive and painful, more painful than the actual tattoo was.

So what is a person to do with this mess? How about a cover up tattoo or a re-work of the original?

Main thing to keep in mind is that a cover up tends to be larger and darker than the original so you really need a good artist and talk to them! Decide together what is possible to cover your existing tattoo. If you like your original tattoo but it just doesn’t look as good as it should or needs a bit of extra flair then you probably won’t necessarily have to have a much larger area tattooed.

Here are some examples of complete cover ups and a re-work. Keep this in mind if you have a less than satisfactory tattoo.

Cover ups really need to be done by someone that is very good at it and can see a new design when looking at the old one.

I'm having a hard time getting around to all the blogs I read so I'm going to be lazy and ask instead of digging thru your archives: You do this? If so, you are so talented. WOW!

Wow, those are amazing. I've never had a tatoo. My daughter has one and loves it and now wants another one.

I am just a tattooed woman that loves the art of tattoos and want to spread the fact that there are great tattoos out there and that women with ink are great!

Hi Ladies,
I hope you don't mind if I post a bit here about my own experiences covering up three very unsightly thirty-year-old tattoos of my own here. My tattoo artist used magenta mixed with white and turquoise (also mixed with a little white) on a chrysanthemum design of my own, to cover up the old tattoos. I'll post pictures of the old and new tattoos so that you can see it (if you want to) on my own Google blog in a day or two as I've just set it up.

i love this blog! I have a tatt I need to cover up (on my arm)...this artwork is amazing.

I'm not feeling the neck tattoos-maybe a small tatt on the back of the neck...but not around the neck

The snake is about 3"x3" top of my arm in mostly in dark green in the shape of a heart kinda. I would be interested as to what you think. Nice blog by the way.
