More women are getting hand or knuckle tattoos than ever before. This surprises me to an extent because of the sterotyping of women with tattoos and the general disapproval of tattoos in general in the workplace.
Visible tattoos usually create issues when applying for work or is frowned upon for the usual 9-5 corporate America style employment. Hand or knuckle tattoos generally are not going to be easily covered up if need be.
Some of the knuckle tattoos that are now popular with women are tattoos to replace the traditional wedding ring. Some couples have matching tats, while others have tats that are more symbolic. Full, both hand knuckle tattoos are showing up more often on women as well.
Any tattoo done on a highly visible area such as the hand should be thought about long and hard and not be a spur of the moment whim. Think carefully about how getting one may effect your future employment choices. I'm not telling anyone to not get one, just be sure it is a choice you aren't going to regret later. Attitudes toward tattoos especially on women are changing for the better but we aren't anywhere close to visible tattoos being no big deal in the general mainstream workplaces.
Just be aware that not all tattoo artists will do hand tattoos. Mine for instance won't do hands, faces, or genital tattoos. He feels that these areas are the ones that people regret the most often and are the most difficult to cover up or get rid of. So check with your artist before getting one done and think about whether it will adversely effect your life or not. If you are completely comfortable with the decision to tattoo your hands, be sure and have a good tattoo artist do the work.
